Just a few short weeks after we have planted the ground we have some major plants and sprouts growing on.  Even our tomato plants have a few tomatoes on them.  But we did had an squirrel attack on our Kandy Corn that DT planted in our old garden, ugh.  Other than that we have been water almost daily and everything is growing well so far.

Our grape vine is huge this year and has tons of grape bunches starting, I think this year I am going to try and make grape jelly, or even wine.  How cool would that be?  Anyone make wine before?

The ground where the squirrels stole the Kandy corn seeds, can you believe they dug them out of the ground? Sneaking little critters.

Please ask your gardening questions and/or please share tips. I will be keeping up with the garden and posting weekly garden posts, just like I did for our winter garden, if you interested in seeing it, you can check out its progress here.

  1. What a garden! Makes me think of my father. He’s had a rough year and his garden isn’t started yet. I know it eats at him. We’re going over Sat. to help get it started. (I’m not much of a gardener)

  2. Great garden- Mine is tiny- I noticed that your tomatoes are planted in pots- it that to keep the gophers from taking them away? I know that’s what we are planning to do this year- last year they took every tomato plant that we planted-

  3. Squirrels are my primary garden enemy. Do you have any interesting tips to keep them at bay? Especially organic ideas?

Thanks for the pictures. It is encouraging to see so much all ready growing!

  4. I’ve been wanting to plant grapes forever it seems, but just never did. Is it hard maintaining them? The squirrels must have a fields day once everything starts growing.

  5. Wow. Your garden looks great! I haven’t started planting yet. It’s still wet where we live. We’ve had snow/rain this past week and I’m waiting for nicer weather and for the ground to dry up. I’m really looking forward to the day for planting! I’m going to try raised beds this year since the gardening spot I have is pretty low and it usually gets flooded. I think my beds will be 3×6. I got some ideas from gardeners.com
Well I hope you have a wonderful weekend! God Bless.

  6. Ah! You’re making me want to put some more plant out this weekend, but I know I’d best wait one more week til our “last frost.” for the rest of my crops. I can work on the soil until then.

Your garden is coming along very nicely. It is so exciting to see the little green things poking up out of the dirt and then to see your tomatoes already starting their fruit……awesome!

  7. Your garden looks so good…I didn’t see one weed…;)
When I had a garden…I had a problem with weeds…Yours looks so Fabulous…can’t wait to see what it looks like next week…Have a wonderful weekend…Julie

  8. Your garden is definitely ahead of ours. Looking great. My husband fights the squirrels constantly to keep away from the bird seed. I told him about them stealing your seed corn!!!

  9. Visiting you via Kelli’s Show and Tell blog train!

Its sure coming – and YES, I’m utterly green with envy!

  10. I’m seriously jealous of your garden. I’m planning on planting some tomato plants for the first time ever. I’ll just be happy to get a few tomatoes off of them before they die. I DO NOT have a green thumb!

  11. Your entire blog inspires me! I definitely envy your planning and organization skills! Keep up the great work!

  12. What a lovely post. We still have snow here! Thanks for sharing with us. Blessings, Jax in Alaska

P.S. Come on over to my blog for more show and tell fun! 🙂

  13. Your garden looks amazing! I am wondering about your tomatoes, do you plant them in the container? Is the bottom of the container gone? I am very curious about your technique, I am always looking for ways to improve my tomato growing!
I can’t believe the squirrels took the seeds right out of the ground, well actually I guess I kind of can believe it they sneaky!

  14. Your garden looks awesome. One pic looked like you might have a bit of hard pan developing. Do you compost? Adding some compost at the base of the plantings would keep protection for you from weed and water evaporation. Man You have a great thing going there. I love you tomato idea of the sunken pots.
