We have chickens. As most of you know I like to write a little about my chickens every now and then, and I am amazed at how much we have bonded. They each have names (all 6 of them) and I can even Identify the chicken by the egg they lay. Because as you may know (or not I surely didn’t) chickens consistently lay the same size, shape and color egg, with slight variations here or there. And though 5 of our chickens are all Plymouth Rocks(the white ones) they are each distinct.
I know what your thinking, Crazy chicken lady!!! But hear me out!
Meet Pesky. She is just that pesky, the type of chicken that follows me around, like I am always going to give her something to eat. She will run clear across the yard when she see me come outside, its kind of cute.
She is the largest of our Rocks and lays the largest egg amongst them.
Did I mention she is also friendly similar to Sally and will ride in the gator with the boys.
Though she hunkers down for a bumpy ride
Ok back to the point of this whole thing. The other day DT went outside to pick the eggs.
And lo and behold he comes back with this massive beast! Did you spot the big one on the far right!
A good double size of her egg from yesterday
So big in fact it wouldn’t fit in the egg carton!
I just knew this had to be a double yolk-er. I just knew it.
and it sure was.
And all I could think to myself was, Oh girl I feel your pain!
Though lucky for me I only had to push them out one at a time!!!
Have you ever got a double yolk egg before?
*I realize this is my 3rd WW post featuring the boys and their gator! Last week I promised they do more than just ride that thing, but come to think of it maybe not, ha ha*

I’ve had a double yolker a time or two, but have never seen a chicken egg that massive before. Poor Pesky!
That’s what we need! We need a chicken!! Those eggs are gorgeous.
That is a huge egg. Wow, I’ve probably have had a double yolk before but I sure can’t remember specifics. I’ll have to keep my eye out. Silly question – Do chickens have twins or would that egg never hatch if left to its own devices?
By the way, you and your boys should read Chicken Dance by Tammi Sauer. It’s hilarious.
@Janelle, Janelle, I am pretty sure that since that egg (and if it were fertilized) it would hatch.
I am so going to have to get that book, thats for the suggestion.
Oh my goodness–I love the pics of the boys in their red, the green of the tractor, and the white chicken!
I never thought about the chicken pushing a giant egg out until today. OUCH!!! Poor Pesky!
Our chickens have yet to lay a double yolker. But ouch … that looks like it would have been hard to push out.
Oh, I cannot wait until the first week in March. That is when my chicks arrive. I am so excited! Since 5 of them will be Wyandottes and 5 will be buff Orpingtons (both BIG chickens), I’m hoping I, too, will have problems fitting their eggs into cartons. Though, it will be 5-7 months from now…. I think gator riding may be aiding in egg production. She hangs out with twins. No wonder she had a double yolk.
Wow! That is a big egg! I didn’t know that chickens can have twins too. Have a wonderful day!
First off, she’s adorable. I love that she’s friendly and likes to hang out with the boys!
Secondly, I’ve never seen an egg with a double yolk before…I guess it would’ve been twins if had been fertilized. Maybe that’s why you’ve bonded with her so well!!
Oh my gosh thats so cool how you can tell the chicken by the egg! lol. Amazing!
So cool!
I want a chicken.. 🙂
She is something special! We can’t wait to get some laying hens this year. We usually do meat chickens, but would love to have farm fresh eggs too! 🙂
I am still so fascinated with having chickens! I told my husband recently I want to get a chicken went we get our house and the first words outta his mouth “who’s blog did you read about them from now”! God luv him!
