How did you meet? We met through Nathan’s parents. His mom and dad came up for a visit and we were all out to eat at Tom Wahl’s. His dad slipped me a napkin with Nathan’s e-mail address on it and said, “I have a nice son in Colorado that you should e-mail sometime.” I did, and he wrote back. We e-mailed and called each other for a while, and then he finally flew out to visit me. We started dating, and it was all downhill from there!
When did you know he was the one? It didn’t take long–we only dated 6 months before we were engaged! To be honest, I had gotten a little exhausted from the whole dating scene (can I get an amen?). I asked God, “I don’t want to date anymore. Can you please let the next guy you send my way be ‘the one’?” One year later, I met Nathan. So, I guess you could say I knew from the beginning. Nathan has a heart for serving, a love for people and a great sense of humor–he is every bit of the man I had been looking for (and then some).
What is one of your favorite things to do together? We love being outdoors. Camping, hiking, riding our bikes, yard sales–pretty much anything that we can do outside together!
What is something new you learned about your husband after you were married? He is really smart! I knew he was pretty smart when we were dating, but now that we’re married I see just how smart he really is. We watch Jeopardy together each night, and he always tears it up! He’s also super handy around the house and knows a lot about cars and computers. He’s got it all!
What do you do to stay connected during everyday stresses of life? We talk– a lot. We talk throughout the day and when we get home from work we always make it a priority to sit and talk about how our days went. Hubby is also a big planner, so we stay pretty organized, which helps keep our stress level to a minimum.
What is your best piece of marriage advice? I actually heard this from Nathan’s dad, but it was “Lower your expectations!” I think this is great advice to keep in mind when going into a marriage.
What is your favorite quirk about your husband? For a man, he is rather clean and likes things in their proper place. As soon as dinner is done, he wants to put the dishes away and get everything cleaned up. I love that he enjoys helping me with the housework!
What is something special you do just for your husband? His two favorite things are steak burritos and banana pudding. I surprise him from time to time with burrito night and we make the banana pudding quite often.
Tell us something about yourself. I’ve developed quite a few hobbies since being married. None of which I’d claim to be an expert in, but I love learning and trying new things. Right now, it’s cooking and gardening. My grandmother passed her love for cooking down to me, and I could be in the kitchen all day! As far as the gardening goes, I just think it’s completely therapeutic. There’s nothing I find more relaxing than playing in the dirt!
I am running out of couples so please If you are interested in being a Meet the Newlyweds featured couple, leave a comment and/or send me a message and I will get in touch with you.
