How did you meet?
We met Freshman year of college at Christopher Newport University in Newport News, VA… We were both in a public speaking class spring semester and ended up sitting next to each other. A couple of his friends were also in the class (I didn’t know anyone else), and I started making friends with them first… you know, playing hard to get and all. 🙂 We hung out in groups at first, but finally one night after a few drinks he spilled the beans that he “liked me” and 6 years later… the rest is history!
When did you know he was the one?
I think I knew for sure when I studied abroad in Europe for a summer and missed him constantly. We had minimal communication (a couple phone calls and emails), and even though I was traveling in some of the most amazing cities in the world, all I could think about was coming home to him.
What is one of your favorite things to do together?
We both love food… probably more than most. We enjoy dining out, going to food festivals, farmer’s markets, sampling at restaurant weeks, and (of course) cooking together.
What is something new you learned about your spouse after you were married?
We went the old fashioned route and didn’t move in together until after we were married. Looking back, the transition went pretty smoothly, but over all I guess he’s a little messier than I thought he’d be… but he’s getting better! But then again, I’m a clean-freak so I knew it’d take a while for us both to adjust.
What do you do to stay connected during everyday stresses of life?
We talk often, throughout the day. Dinner is almost always “our time” … we don’t answer the phone or talk about anything stressful… just enjoy our meal and each other’s company.
What is your best piece of marriage advice?
Pick your battles, as cliche as that may sound. When you’re married, that’s it… you’re in it for the long run. The little things that irked me now and again when we were dating just don’t seem to matter as much anymore.
What is your favorite quirk about your husband?
Oh there are so many! 🙂 He is a goofball, for sure. This is silly, but for some strange reason he always crosses his arms while he’s sleeping and it makes me laugh every time… that position isn’t even comfortable!
What is something special you do just for your husband?
I leave him little notes every once in a while. I try to make sure the kitchen is stocked with his favorite snacks and foods. A couple times a year I’ll splurge on a “no reason” gift for him.. little things, so he’s reminded that I’m always thinking about him.
Tell us something about yourself.
Let’s see… I love my job.. I’m an Associate Producer for the Discovery Channel and even though it can get crazy sometimes, its a lot of fun. I am constantly surrounded by amazing friends and family. I have the best girlfriends anyone could ask for… even though some of them are spread out all over the world, I know they’re always there and that’s what counts. I have an addiction to traveling… both my parents traveled all over the world growing up and passed the bug onto me. I hope to see everything there is to see in my lifetime. I can’t wait to be a mom one day in the future… but that’s still a few years away. We’re also looking to possibly purchase our first home this fall… fingers crossed! In the meantime, I’m busy enjoying my newlywed life and couldn’t ask for anything else.
these two are so full of life and cute! What a fun job at Discovery Channel 🙂
Thanks for the interview!! 🙂
