I took the boys to our local park playground on a beautiful cool sunny day last week, one of very few we’ve had lately. We all needed some sunshine. But as the boys were running and playing, sliding and swinging. A thought occurred to me.
This is the very first time I’ve taken them to the park!
They are 27 months old, and have never gone to the park before!?!
Let me explain.
It’s mainly for 2 reasons:
A. I would have to take them alone (I am a wimp)
B. They literally run (towards the road) in opposite directions with no fear or sense of danger. They run like wild antelope running from a lion. (how’s that for an analogy) Well except for running from danger they are running towards danger, you know all the fun stuff, like cars, roads, ditches.
But things have changed recently. They are getting older now a little more composed and can follow simple instructions (somewhat). That and they want to play on the playground instead of outside the playground picking up every piece of trash, rock, dog poop whatever, like they would have just a few months ago.
We use to call them the floor sweepers, because if we went anywhere and they found the random piece of dirt, stick, trash, piece of anything, it went straight in the mouth. Going anywhere was quite a chore, which resulted in us staying home, a lot. Especially if it was just me, there was no way I could follow 2 little floor sweepers around constantly.
But now they are little boys (not floor sweeps). And they run, play, laugh, giggle, squeal, all while I watch, snap a few pictures, and truly enjoy my time with them. Did you read that, truly enjoy myself. That is a big thing..
Now don’t get me wrong it’s not like I could go sit on the bench (like some of the parents I saw) and just watch them play.
I had to be very aware of what they were doing or climbing I should say. Did I mention its hard to run in loose rocks.
They still had no fear and even did the big slide no problem.
and loved to swing as high as I could push them.
All while I’m practicing taking action shots with my camera. I even caught a glimpse of the future Edward Cullen.
(Sorry Little H your little fangs were too cute)
I will take this as a welcomed future of fun outings and things to come.

Those are such great pics!! Your adventures with your boys always take me back a few years. Mine are about to be 8….. boohoo!! They have an older sister though w ho is 10 and so she always led the “way” on our outings. Hee hee!
Looks like they really enjoyed themselves. Can’t believe that Little W climbed so high on the Jungle Jim thing. At least they didn’t do what your brother did when I took the two of them to the park. I was helping your older brother get on this toy and turned around to see “Wrangler Boy” with his pants half down going to the restroom right on the playground. Well I was this young thing right out of college and I almost died of embarrassment right on the spot. Now after raising two kids (one being a boy) that kind of thing just rolls off your back. lol
@SueSue, Ha Ha Ha, SueSue that is too funny!! You be sure to remind him of that, heck he’d probably be proud.
It looks like they had a blast!
I only have ONE 2 1/2 year old and I took him to the park, but it was hard. Now I have an infant and 2 year old, but he’s growing up and listening better.
It looks like they are having a great time. WTG for finally taking them. I remember thinking the same thing. Except when mine was 27 months old, I had a three month old, too. Thankfully, she wasn’t mobile yet!
It looks like they had fun! I loved the playground near our old house because it was fenced in, so I never had to really “hover” over Jackson or worry that he would get too far away. So I definitely understand your concern there! I wish I could find another one like that!
They are adorable! Little boys are so full of energy. I have a hard time keeping up with my 2 1/2 year old son when I take him to the park. You got some pretty amazing shots of your boys! Have a wonderful Wednesday!
I cannot WAIT for Spring to take my little guy out to play..he is going to LOVE it.
Great shots of those beautiful boys!

I can’t believe how much they’ve changed since the last time I looked closely. They are growing up!
I’m glad you were able to give the park a try. We go to all sorts of parks, all the time. It’s one of G’s favorite places.
Ok it took me 2 years to take my son (ONE child) to the park. So I feel for you. Thankfully I never had a problem with my twins running in different directions. I have taken all three to the park by myself since the twins were 1 1/2 and my son 3 1/2. But thankfully I don’t have to worry about the one twin. She is a monkey I swear and can climb almost as well as her brother so that makes it easier. Now when I take the three to the park, I’m just there to wrangle and make sure we don’t fall off but they are all pretty good on their own. It does get easier!
