Chili dogs are a must at birthday parties and why not throw in Frito pies as well. If there is a way to eat this, trust me the men in your life will figure it out! Over a bowl of rice, frito’s or just plain, it’s perfect.
This recipe couldn’t be simpler and packed fun of flavor. You’ll toss out that canned chili, once you realize how easy this is, and tastes so much better.
I made a huge batch of this, but you could easily cut the proportions down to fit your needs, or go ahead and make alot, it freezes well too.
Just 4 ingredients: 5 lbs ground beef (I used 80/20), 4-5 T chili powder, 1-2 T salt, 1 T pepper
I chose ground chuck 80/20, you need a little fat to up the flavor, but use whatever meat you prefer.
Chili powder, salt and pepper, that’s it!
Place your ground beef in a large stock pot, and just cover with water.
Then with you hands, squish all the meat, you want the meat to have a loose, texture, sure you could probably use a spoon, but this is much easier.
With that said I still hate squishing raw meat.
Once the meat is all squished up, it will look like this.
Go ahead and add your seasonings, chili powder, salt and pepper
Add about 1 T of chili powder for every pound of meat, so you can adjust accordingly.
Bring to a boil and let simmer stirring occasionally for about 1 hour.
Do a quick seasoning check, and add more if necessary.
Then skim some of the grease off the top, it’ll make you feel a little better about eating chili dogs.
and serve to your choosing.
This was great on hot dogs, frito pies and even served on top of rice.

5 lbs ground beef (80/20)
4-5 T chili powder
1 T salt
1 T pepper
water, to cover meat
In a large stockpot add beef and water to cover meat, then with your hands (or spoon) squish up the meat with your hands, for a fine texture meat. Add seasonings (1 T of chili powder per pound of meat). Bring to a boil, and then simmer for about 1 hour. Skim some of the grease off the top. And serve, over hotdogs, Frito pie or a bowl of rice. Freezes well. Enjoy!
It looks yummy and easy!

yummy…and looks super easy..i’m going to have to try this!
I’ve always added canned tomatoes to my chili but since my husband found out he’s allergic to tomatoes, I haven’t made chili. I think I might try this.
I’ve never seen this version of chili before, but it sounds delicious.

Hi I’m wondering if this chili recipe is the same chili that I remember as a child from a guy named Boots from Merced CA ? At the time the hotdog stand was called Roses Original Chili Dog. It was the best ever chili I’ve ever had.
Home made chilli dog sauce
You said that you’ve tried to recreate the Boots and Sonny’s recipe. Is this it? If not, where is that recipe? My husband grew up in Spartanburg and this is his favorite!
I can wait to try it! I’m frOm a small town in So Carolina that had some of the best hot dog chili You will ever have
