I found this pretty vase at a garage sale a few weeks ago.  I wasn’t sure at the time what I had in mind with for it, but I decided to add a little paint and spruce it up a bit.  Since the vase/flower pot had such a pretty design and deep grooves, I thought it would look great with a splash of color to really accent the reddish brown color.

I choose a turquoise-y color (which happens to be the same color I am painting my coffee table and side tables)

I simply painted the color on quickly and let it dry about 1 minute.

Using a old rag I start wiping off the color, leaving the color in the grooves.

I repeated this technique until the whole vase was finished and went over a couple spots that needed a little work.  I also ran a quick color on the inside of the vase and wiped it out as well.

See how it looks a bit messy, I wanted that.  Let this dry overnight.

Then the next day using my favorite Martha Stewart Living Metallic Glaze in Muscavado.  I found it at Home Depot.  They have a variety of colors and I have this and also black coffee.

I simply brushed on the glaze, making sure to get it in the grooves well.

Using the same technique as before I rubbed it off after sitting a minute or so.

Repeating the process all over and touching up any spots as I go along.

I let this dry a few hours and then sprayed with a good coat of clear polyurethane coat and let dry another 1-2 days.

I am very happy with the finished product.  I think it give the vase the pop of color it needed.

So fun to turn this $1 garage sale find into something a little unique.

A little sneak preview of my side table.
