Its that time of year again, the farmers are in their fields cutting rice. My dad and grandpa were busy last Saturday cutting rice and we brought the boys by to ride with Poppy (my dad) in the combine. About a few days before they started cutting we had a big rain storm and it knocked most of my dads rice on the ground. Luckily the combine is able to pick it up to cut so its not a loss. I’ve posted about my dad’s rice fields before if you are interested check out this link.
The boys were super excited to ride, but a little nervous at first. Check out their boots aren’t they cute? We snagged them at Walmart of all places.
As they left to cut rice, I was taking pictures and noticed some rain heading our way
I also brought along my farm dog Cricket.
My brother Robert was driving the auger cart (which is what the combines unload on and then he brings the rice back to the trucks to unload)
And as he was unloading the rice in the trailers, I came for a close up, and felt a strange warm sensation trickle down the back of my calf. I jumped and looked down, and Robert’s dog Pea-sock (no kidding) so kindly marked me as his territory. Aptly named huh? Don’t worry I had plenty of baby wipes in the car and quickly cleaned up my leg.
My 4 favorite men made it back to unload and before the rain started
I think my dad was the only one that noticed I was taking pictures.
They had a great time on their first Combine ride, Thanks Poppy!!
What fun! I know the boys loved it. I think Robert’s dog’s names it Pee-sock (Pee not Pea) as you found out. That is just too funny! When I first heard it’s name I had to ask, and Robert said that he always peed on his socks when he was a puppy.
wow, I have never seen a rice field before. Thanks for sharing, it is really cool. BTW – I LOVE the boys boots!!
Thanks for all the pictures! I have never seen your Dad in action. It was this time last year that we went to visit the boys for the first time and I borrowed “the book” ha. Crazy how time flys by so fast. I remember Patrick went to the field with the older guys and we stayed with the boys at the house playing!
Awesome post!
What a lot of hard work – farming! I have a whole new appreciation after reading some of your posts!
And that is one BIG ASS machine! Dang!
#1 I didn’t know you could grow and harvest rice like that–I’m stuck with the visual image of the orientals growing it on terraces and harvesting it by hand–(what planet do I live on?)
#2 Whats up with that dog?
#3 My favorite shot–your four favorite guys in the cab of the tractor
fun post–Here’s my photo story. happy Friday!
That is every little boy’s dream! Your guys are lucky.
I love pictures of The Heartland. It’s one of the many things that makes our country great. Gorgeous shots. Love the storm clouds, especially.

Very cool! We love rice here – I wonder if we eat any of your dad’s!
Um, you are a good sport. I don’t know if I would have been so nice about that dog…
That second photo is a keeper! Worth framing!
There is nothing to compare to rides in farm equipment! Great pix!
How fun!! Your boys are being exposed to so many cool things! My boys have to see things like that in books, never in real life! They’d die of excitement if they ever got to ride any of those cool machines!
Why didn’t Uncle Robert take them for a ride? Just wait until the boys are a little older and he can take them hunting.
Such Superior Snaps! Thanks so much for sharing…
My husband has great memories of riding his grandpa’s Combine:-)
Wow I would love a go at that stuff. tell em if ever they need a extra farmer Im here lol
great photo friday
What fun! Those are some great pictures. And what a great thing that the boys will grow up doing and learning! What a funny story ab out the dog peeing (probably not at the time but now) Have a great Friday. Stopping by from Carrie’s.
There is just something about farming that makes little boy so happy! My son agrees!
Soooo Cute! I bet the boys were so excited!
Take it from a boy: There is (almost) nothing boys like better that BIG MACHINES they can ride on or in.
The boys looked like they have fun. Hopefully Dad will be able to put them to work out there in a few years. My poor brother-in-law didn’t look too excited in that one picture. I think you’re taking too many pics of him. Haha
I love those boots!
I will admit… I laughed when I read about your ‘warm sensation on your calf!” How awful!
Oh this brings back some wonderful memories of riding on the tractors and combines with my grandpa and uncle!
So THAT’s how they make rice! Good to know (since I eat it at least once every day). 🙂 glad the boys had fun and Cricket is such a cutie!
Fantastic pictures!!! Love the boots!
I am such a city girl I had NO CLUE about rice til now!
