We took the family camping at “Gator Park” last weekend.  Did I mention how much we are loving our camper?  So much, so very much.  In fact, we won’t be able to take it out again until the end of October and I am already having withdrawals.  Poor me!

Gator park is huge, with tons of trails, bike paths, lakes, and rivers to visit.  It’s a total nature lover’s dream.

We went on several walks and bike rides daily.  There is so much fun to see.

And gators of course.

Hiding under lily pads,

Swimming in the lakes.

It’s fun spotting them everywhere, and maybe slightly unnerving, too.  Because, after all, this is nature and they are out and about just like us.  No fencing keeping them away.  This is their home, we are just visitors.

DT did a little fishing on the end of a pier.

And he met this buddy, who kept stealing his bait and catches.

At the Nature Center they had a story hour, all about raccoons.

We got to hear the story read by the author, who is a Park Ranger, I think that was really neat.

The boys also got to pet a baby alligator.

More biking.

And taking a little pit stop

*DT may kill me for this picture, but I thought it was too cute!

We came across this big guy.

Luckily we were on a high pier overlooking the river.  So we can only guess how big he was.  DT thought easily 12 feet long.

Overnight we had this zipper/banana spider make her web on DT’s truck.  DT carefully removed her to a nearby tree, but she was huge.

Little W taking a picture with Mommy’s camera.

As you can see the scenery is beautiful, the wild life, so interesting.

Can’t wait to go back to Gator Park, aka Brazos Bend State Park.

  1. WOW, I’m so surprised, I knew you were in Texas but you were just a hop, skip and a jump from my hometown!! I LOVE Brazos Bend, started going there right after they opened, I have lots of pictures of turtles on the logs and of course lots of alligators! Good memories for sure, I’m in NE GA now, love it up here in the foothills and no gators to worry about in the area!! Hope you get back out in the camper again soon!!!

  2. Looks like a lot of fun Jenna! I can’t wait until we have a camper one day! We have gone camping a few times but always slept in a tent, not sure I would want to sleep in a tent where there are gators!

  3. Ba ha ha, sounds crazy right? But seriously it was beautiful and peaceful. Just a little bit of excitement near the water, luckily our camper wasn’t.
