This weeks newlywed couple is Jia and Matt, a not so newlywed couple that just celebrated their 5 year anniversary! Way to go guys. Let me just tell you that Jia is a busy women, not only does she write openly and honestly on her personal blog Color Me Untypical, but she also runs the site Modern Molly Mormon, and she has been writing a Twilight continuation from where the series left off with book Breaking Dawn, and let me tell you if you’ve read the books, its like they never ended. She is a really good writer. But she is not the only writer in the marriage Matt also has a blog called The Mormon Gamer. I included 2 pictures because I thought both of these were so great that I couldn’t choose. Please go visit the Newlyweds!
Wedding date: February 28th, 2004
Blog: Jia’s personal blog is Color Me Untypical , Matt’s is The Mormon Gamer
How did you meet?: We met December 18th, 1998 in High School. It was our freshman year, and we were both ditching a pep rally in the cafeteria where all the “cool” kids hung out. My best friend was head over heels for a new guy, and she insisted that I meet him. Approaching a large table full of boys, I caught sight of a goofy looking one and pegged him as her new crush. His friend however was this gorgeous hunk of broodyness, with a goatee (something rare among 15 year old boys at the time) and this army trench coat. I was instantly smitten. He however turned out to be the object of my best friends affections, so for 6 months neither of us so much as really spoke to one another. They began to date in March of 1999 and soon I began to date the “goofy” looking friend of Matt’s. Eventually in May of the same year, my best friend and Matt broke up and he felt he was tired of playing games and keeping secrets. He told me, “If your boyfriend wasn’t in the way, I’d move on you so quick,” and I nearly fainted. I broke up with my boyfriend less than a week later and Matt was mine. (Don’t feel too bad for my ex, he’s actually one of our best friends to this day, and married himself!)
When did you know he was the one?: Honestly, there wasn’t any ONE moment that stood out. It’s more like, now looking back I can see that he always was the one. Even during our rough years when we would split up to date other people, he was always my basis of comparison. I recently told my mother in law when she asked me a similar question, “When I thought about other guys, I could see myself marrying them, enjoying all the good moments, but not the bad. I would never stick it through the bad. When it comes to Matt, I would be willing to enjoy all the highs and all the lows of our life together. Even if we were miserable (which we’re SOO not) I would be happier with him than I ever could be with anyone else, regardless of circumstance.
What is one of your favorite things to do together?: Watch tv. It sounds totally lame, but we love to just sit back, veg out and watch mass amounts of television series on DVD. During the first year of our marriage, we got through all 7 seasons of Buffy the Vampire Slayer! We have a similar sense of humor, and we love to sit back and enjoy laughing together. We also read together, it’s a new hobby that’s quickly becoming a favorite!
What is something new you learned about your spouse after you were married?: He makes the bed before he gets in it, it’s so stupid! Me? I could throw a pillow on the floor and be completely comfortable, but he needs to be tucked in at all times. During the first week of marriage he woke me up at 3 in the morning to “fix” the bed because I had twisted the covers around my leg!
What do you do to stay connected during everyday stresses of life?: We laugh. My motto is “Nothing will go right today, so relax and be amused by it.”
What is your best piece of marriage advice?: Elope. Kidding, or am I? Honestly, it’s all about the numbers when you get married. Get rid of half of your stuff before you move in together because you won’t have room for anything. Also, if you both have jobs, when you get married, it doesn’t mean your money is doubled! That was a lesson we learned the hard way. Other than that, don’t be perfect. All the supposedly “perfect” marriages I’ve ever seen have ended tragically. Those who admit their faults, learn from them, laugh about them are the relationships I see lasting forever!
What is your favorite quirk about your husband?: He always finds a way to make life more interesting. He refuses to catch anything I toss to him; remote controls, phones, papers, anything! It’s horrible. He just let’s things hit his chest and them looks at me like I did it on purpose, haha! He also randomly talks in an accent to try and get me to pick it up (I catch accents like the common cold!)
What is something special you do just for your husband?: I support him in anything he does and I always have his back. I also never talk badly about him to others. I do my best to lift him up in all situations, because he’s worth it!
Tell us something about yourself: I’m a nut job. I’m a hot tempered Irish chica who is a stay at home wife and I love my job! I also am a freelance writer and have been published in several virtual magazines. I run the LDS women’s website Modern Molly Mormon (http://modernmollymormon.blogspot.com) and I’m a HUGE Twilight addict. So much so that I’m writing a continuation of the series (for fun) over at Twilight Continues (http://twilightcontinues.blogspot.com)
Hope you join us for next weeks rendition of Meet the Newlyweds. If you interested in being a featured couple or know of a newlywed blogging couple, please leave me a comment.

Cute, but I feel so old! I graduated in 1998. 🙂
I’m dropping by to comment on my own thread.
Wow, this couple looks so awesome!
Kidding. LOL!
Jenny don’t feel old, that’s only what? 4 years older than us! You’re only as old as you act . . . so I’m like some strange mix of 35 and 13.
Those pictures are adorable. And great feature!!
I’m a ‘make the bed before I go to sleep’ girl myself. I like to feel all snuggly!!!
Ooooh why not? I’m a newlywed….got married last August!

Thanks for stopping by! Your husband would definately like those doo-hickey things. They are perfect for times when you really want to brush your teeth and just can’t.
Oh, and I need to stop by that blog you just mentioned-I am seriously obsessed with the Twilight series!
Hi Sweet Pea! Thanks for stoppin’ by my blog today!
That’s so cool how you feature couples like this.
Gosh I hope that your in-laws are okay!
Your twins are ADORABLE! My best friend swore she’d never get married then she did. She swore no way, no kids. She had twins. They’re young men now, one in college, the other in the military. Seems yesterday they were just boys.
I checked out your garden links. You have quite a garden goin’ – makes my little effort seem so puny LOL!
I left ya a message on the garden post.
Mary
LOL! Some days I feel like an old lady. Isn’t it scary to be out and see babies driving cars and then realize that they must be 16? Now that makes me feel old!
Sweet Pea, I just tagged you for a fun game on my blog. Check it out, if your interested:
